Help us all get some Work Life Balance... ...and join the Women's Forum Australia Great Ocean Walk! Walk one of the most spectacular stretches of coastline in Australia with passionate women from the Board, staff and volunteers of Women's Forum Australia. The Great Ocean Walk is a 3 day journey for anyone who wants a unique adventure while fundraising to support the work of Women's Forum Australia. This year we are walking to raise awareness of the importance of work life balance in conjunction with the launch of our newest report Reality Check: Work Life Balance. Sponsor a trekker by clicking here! Did you know that Australian women are working more now than ever before, but still remain the main providers of informal care to families, the disabled and frail aged? And it's been proven: a majority of women really do more than their fair share of domestic work! The issue of work life balance and the tensions it creates has serious long-term cultural and health effects for women. Women’s Forum Australia is producing ground-breaking research into the area of work life balance – conducting a literature review in relation to these issues and undertaking primary research through a solution-focused survey. Reality Check: Work/Life Balance, will be launched across Australia starting March 2010. As part of our launch activities, we're going to be walking part of the Great Ocean Road - it's a great opportunity to take some time out for exercise and leisure, and talking to others about their experiences and ideas.
The Great Ocean Road Walk This walk traverses the coastline of Southern Victoria with all of its ascents, descents and forested areas. The distances covered on some of the 3 consecutive hiking days exceed 20kms and walking on soft sand can make this tougher than the distances suggest. There are some very challenging sections throughout the walk and a reasonable level of fitness is required. Each day you'll be transferred back to base which means you'll only have to carry your daypack!
